Gonzo Fest

There's a local micro-brewery (if you can still call it that) that holds an annual tribute to the great Hunter S. Thompson... I went this year (as well as last) and, like a jackass, took only four pictures... ugh.... enjoy

in case you're wondering... I'm the larger gentleman in the picture with the "The Liver is Evil and Must be Punished" t-shirt

God Bless Flying Dog as well as Hunter S. Thompson

And so it begins

I have no excuse for my absence... sans school and football.

wait...

thats a PERFECT excuse.

I started my last semester of undergraduate/under-appreciated senior year (which, lets be serious, you could care less about (or could you??)) as well as the first semester of the National Football League... One of these things just doesn't belong however... fancy a guess???

correct.

My collegiate career is now under the rug and the NFL is front page news....

And front page-news-fodder is a-plenty.

Are you kidding me??? Polamalu, McNabb, Urlacher???? Flacco, Peterson, BREES!!!

This season couldn't have started off better (except for my burgundy and gold colored mediocrity) unless somehow my BFF (Best Friend Forever) BF (Brett Favre) had matched or surpassed my DFF (Draft First in Fantasy) DB (Drew Brees) in my fantasy leagues... This season looks like its a boiling pot of excitement and drama that only Serena Williams and Kanye West could stir... BRING IT ON!

We have Rogers and Jennings, Warner and Fitzgerald, Brady and Moss... are you kidding me? This season is poised to be the NFL's breakout season in 4 years. Not since the AFC's Patriot/Colts rivalry of years past have we seen such legitimate competition, not only inner division or conference competition, but LEAGUE competition...

Riddle me this... Who is your AFC pick this season? Who is your NFC pick??  Its a lock its not Steelers/Skins like our misguided prophet Florio wants is preaching... I'm predicting Patriots/Vikings in the SB (and before you get your green and yellow panties in a bunch, I would still be saying this even if Christ Favre were playing this season on his couch via x-box controller).

Regardless of the outcome of this grab bag/winner-takes-all cluster-F of a league we've been given over the past decade, this year will prove to be a capstone of what this league requires to succeed as well as what toxins are poisoning the reputation of a once great empire that owned America's heart and soul.

I'd love to pontificate longer, but until then..

It's that time of year again

this is the first real chance i've had today to sit down and just relax...

all day long i've been packing up my apartment to get ready to move on saturday and let me tell you, it sucks.

in the past 5 years i've moved 6 times. each time, packing all of my useless junk up into boxes and subsequently the moving truck, driving the U-Haul beheemoth to mmy new digs, and schleping couches, beds, dressers, tables, chairs, and everything else up at least 3 flights of stairs so it can sit and look pretty till the next time i have to do it all over again. Such as life, i guess. The really pathetic part of this move is that it was thrust upon me a month or so ago. I was expecting to live here for at least a few more months (per the lease), yet apparently some idiot bought this unit (i say idiot here because my apartment is the worst apartment in the building.... 150 yards, 5 doors, 4 hallways, a bridge that connects the two buildings, and 1 level away from the closest elevator, mailbox, trash chute, or parking garage. we're on a little isolated island over here. there's no reason to be back in this nook of the building unless you live in this inconvenient unit, 465 in case you were interested. the apartment itself is fantastic.. to rent... but i could never justify the $800,000 asking price to own one of these bad boys.)

but i digress. i've been packing up crap all day long, and i'm incredibly tired of it. it's about time to sit back with a cold one and play some poker. its weird though in my room now.. im used to posters, jerseys, and signs hanging up all over the place and now its barren. i've never felt so empty and cold on a hot day, but whatever... here, take a look at my barren-ass room...

Limbo

As previously mentioned, im a 24 year old senior at American University.

Thats right, a full 2 years older than your traditional senior (assuming most students graduate in four years, which is the norm i assume except in the south... obviously)

Because of this, i am in a odd Van Wilder-esque mind-frame that has kept me perpetually in a state of student-blindness. Since high school (which seems like a distant memory) i have been conditioned by my parents to run through the motions of being a student with no eye trained on the subsequent post-college pete.

Now, unfortuantely, it seems that college pete and post-college pete are going to meet each other in a no holds barred battle of mediocrity and apathy.... and honestly, i don't know who's going to win. I'm essentially a quarter of a century old, i've lived a third of my life already, i'm an adult, and yet i rely on my parents, have no appreciable skills (besides radio), and have no desire to work a 9 to 5 job.

It's because of this that I am in a state of collegiate limbo... not quite ready to leave but incredibly ready to stop doing schoolwork.

I swear to you that I've written the same damn paper a thousand times: discuss how this event/story/article/person helped shape/define/craft/build the ideological framework for ________. I'm so done with it yet because I havent satisfied 9 credits in the literature department, I am forced to share a classroom with kids born in the 90's talking about the Black Eyed Peas, Juicy Couture, and glitter. Kill me now.

But i march on down the path of the societally mandatory college degree hoping that somewhere along the line a gorgeous co-ed is going to make all of this worthwhile.

The First

I have to admit that im a huge fan of the old Don and Mike show, and Don Geronimo in general, and he is who brought me to this site. I had never heard of it before and to be honest, it looks wild and incredibly easy to use... who knew?

I maintain another blog-esque kind of site... do a google search for Riot Village or go directly there at riotvillage.blogspot.com.... you used to be able to go to riotvillage.com but some asshat sniped my domain name a few years ago so he can maintain the worst car blog i've ever encountered, but i digress.

For this first 'post' i guess i just want to introduce myself...

My name is Pete...

Pleasure's all mine.

i currently intern at 1067 the Fan (previously known as 1067 WJFK) and am working on possible getting paid at some point. Currency accumulation would be nice since i'm a 6th semester senior at American University and have zippy money to speak of.. also though, because i love the station and radio in general.
i live with my heterosexual life-mate, Sam Scott with whom i also co-host a online college radio show called The Scott and Polumbo Show (the title's a work in progress, much like my on air name) in North Bethesda (rockville), MD. i'm working on receiving my bachelors degree in literature (ugh, dont ask) and if everything works out like its supposed to, this time come december i'll be an official college graduate. stars must be aligning.

essentially, all you need to know about me is that i'm an attractive 24 year old radiophile that bleeds burgundy and gold, loves women, music, poker, television, movies, football, basketball, lacrosse, puppies (i mean, who doesn't?), good beer, and good company.

oh, i like sleeping too.

i assume that i'm gonna get really into this site, so look forward to more...

i dont have Twitter, but feel free to follow me in real life.
